Day 85 – Da Pub: Hike, Relax, and Resupply in Duncannon (2026)

Today's story takes us on a journey through the quaint town of Duncannon, where our hikers found themselves in a unique situation. With a plan to cover just a few miles, the day began slowly, allowing for some much-needed relaxation.

Exploring Duncannon's Charm

Duncannon, a town with limited openings on Mondays, offered our hikers a different kind of adventure. They started their day with a mini resupply, a strategic move to lighten their packs and rely more on frequent resupply stops along the trail. This decision, in my opinion, showcases a smart approach to hiking, adapting to the trail's resources.

Unsupervised Adventures

As Birdy met up with her brother for lunch, the remaining hikers, Shooter, Big Stick, and our narrator, found themselves unsupervised. The lack of options led them to a familiar spot, The Pub. Here, they claimed a cozy corner, charged their devices, and enjoyed some refreshments. It's interesting how these unplanned moments can become memorable experiences.

A Day of Indulgence

What started as a casual afternoon at the pub turned into a full-blown celebration. With the addition of some tequila shots, the hikers decided to call it a day and head to the Church Hostel. Despite the short distance, their day of relaxation still counted as a NERO (Near Zero) day.

Comforts of the Church Hostel

The Church Hostel provided a welcome respite from the elements. With a comfortable setup and a nice bathroom, the hikers could relax and unwind. Running into fellow hikers, Frog and Turbo, added to the sense of community and camaraderie.

Fulfilling Desires

After a day of indulgence, the hikers still had one mission: ice cream. A promise made the day before was fulfilled, and they enjoyed their sweet treat. But the day wasn't over yet. They returned to The Pub for dinner and more refreshments, playing music and enjoying the atmosphere until closing time.

A Surprising Turn of Events

This day, initially planned as a slow and relaxed one, turned into an unexpected adventure. It goes to show that sometimes the best memories are made when we let go of our plans and embrace the unexpected.

Reflection

Hiking is not just about the physical journey, but also the experiences and connections made along the way. This day in Duncannon highlights the importance of flexibility and the joy of living in the moment. It's a reminder that sometimes the simplest pleasures can create the most memorable days.
